Open letter to the Grocery Manufacturers Association - Seattle GMO | Examiner.com:

Dear Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and members,
We, The People, would like to make a deal with you. We know who you are. We know that you collectively donated about 10 million dollars to help defeat genetically modified (GM) labeling in California. We know that, because of the backlash, you cravenly and illegally tried to hide behind the GMA with your 11 million dollars to defeat GM labeling in Washington state.
We have seen your confidential documents that you were forced to turn over to the Washington State Attorney General. From these documents, we know that you seek and are actively lobbying for a preemptive federal law that does not include a labeling requirement. We know that you want the information on the label to “be reserved for material information that allows consumers to understand the product they purchase.” We also found out that you are all for “transparency and disclosure,” so long as the information on the label contains “science and fact-based information.”
We couldn't agree more. Besides, we are tired of fighting and you have more money and more power than we do. We know this. We are weary of arguing with you about what is and isn't safe. Quite frankly, we don't believe either you or the FDA. We will no longer tolerate your inferences that we are too dumb to understand the science. We want to think for ourselves now.
So, here's the deal: we'll give up on GMO labeling. But we want something in exchange, something that, based on your desire for transparency and disclosure of science-based material facts, we think you should agree with.
We want you to submit a sample of each of your products, at least once a year, to an independentlaboratory for testing. We want those test results on the label. You can just put it on the back along with the BHT and the msg and all that stuff. Or you could put it in with the nutritional information. We don't care. Whatever is most convenient for you. We want to know what is the material in each package that you call food. Specifically, we want each item tested for the following.
