Oregon Right to Know-Label Genetically Engineered Foods Campaign Organizers

Oregon Right to Know: GMO Labeling:

The Oregon Right to Know Campaign is seeking talented and strategic organizers to help qualify and win a ballot initiative that would label genetically engineered foods in Oregon.

The organizers will work to build an extensive volunteer leader network that will help gather signatures for the ballot, identify and persuade voters, and mobilize to get out the vote in October.

The organizers will also work to build coalition relationships and campaign endorsements, engage in extensive outreach and public speaking to represent the campaign throughout the state, and support grassroots fundraising efforts.

The positions will be based out of Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford, or Ashland and will report to the Grassroots Director.


Specific Responsibilities

• Build geographically focused volunteer leadership to carry out the campaign organizing priorities.
• Collecting signatures to qualify ballot measure, identify and persuade voters, get out the vote.
• Engage and train volunteer leaders. • Build organization and business coalition to endorse and support the campaign.
• Maintain activist volunteer database and email lists to effectively engage supporters.
• Coordinate events such as, but not limited to, panel discussions and film screenings.
• Travel to target areas to motivate local organizations and individuals through public speaking, media appearances, strategic planning and training, and meetings with state and local governments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements 

• Education: College degree or equivalent experience required.
• Experience: Experience in election campaign organizing or grassroots/field organizing.
• Knowledge: Organizing, and volunteer management; familiarity with issues related to the environment, food systems or genetically engineered foods; familiarity with political landscape of Oregon; working with the media.
• Skills: Strong Volunteer Management skills; Training skills; Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal and planning; excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of online campaign tools.
• Capabilities: Ability to think creatively and quickly to respond to campaign developments; demonstrated leadership capability; ability to work well with a wide variety of people and to coordinate diverse tasks; ability to present to large audiences; can-do attitude. Work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks at once, and adapt to changing situations on a daily basis. High level of independent judgment.
• Conditions: Strong interest in and commitment to the issue of labeling genetically engineered food. Long hours possible, extensive travel possible.
• Applicant must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Compensation Competitive pay dependent upon experience.

This will be a contract position through November 2014.
