KTVL CBS Channel 10 :: Medford - News - Top Stories - YES and NO Supporters Hold Rallies Outside Jackson County Offices:
Measure 15-119 continues to gain support from local and out-of-state organizations.
One week until voting ends and residents continue to drop off their ballots at the elections office.
Many voters said they're already decided on the GMO measure, but both sides continue to push towards getting more votes.
Tuesday morning, both sides gathered at county offices to rally and get the word out about genetically-modified crops.
“I can say they can't buy out Jackson County,” Elise Higley said.
Elise Higley with Our Family Farms Coalition and supporters of a YES vote on measure 15-119 gathered outside Jackson County offices to attract more support.
”You don't need a million dollars to win a campaign in Jackson County. You need to tell the truth and grow good food and have support of the community,” Higley said.
Around 375 thousand dollars is supporting Higley and supporters of a YES vote and most of the money for a NO vote on the measure comes from out-of-state.
“Don't let them fool you by the claims about affecting home gardeners. We're asking as family farmers and growers of local food of local foods and savers of seed to protect us from genetically-engineered crops,” Higley said.
Money doesn't grow on trees, but current reports for Good Neighbor Farmers show receiving about 900 thousand dollars in support of a NO vote.
Local farmers said farming doesn't bring in big money and they appreciate the support
