CO lawmakers reject GMO labeling - National Holistic Health | Examiner.com
A Colorado House Committee voted against mandatory labeling for GMO foods Thursday.
Despite a growing list of reasons suggesting genetically modified organisms (GMO) are an unsafe food alternative to what nature already provides, required labeling for GMOs was rejected by Colorado lawmakers, after a hotly contested debate Thursday night.
Citing fears “the requirement would burden farmers and raise food prices,” a House committee, made up of Democrats, sided with big-Agra by an overwhelming margin of 7-2.
But the measure wasn't defeated until after an emotional, 5-plus hour slug-fest between farmers arguing for federal control and citizens concerned about the lack of oversight regarding what corporations are putting in the food.
