Food Integrity Now - Food Integrity Now " Megan Westgate " The Non-GMO Project " E31 - Blubrry Podcast Community
Food Integrity Now welcomes Megan Westgate of The Non-GMO Project on the show. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization founded by leaders in the food industry for the purpose of establishing non-GMO certification program. It is mandatory in the EU that products containing genetically-modified organisms be labelled, but not so in the U.S. In fact, the U.S. has adopted a pro-GMO stance in it’s domestic and international policy, essentially using tax-payer dollars to benefit a few multinational corporations. Very minimal testing of GMOs on humans has been conducted and independent studies on animals have shown many reasons for concern, including organ damage and infertility. Because GMOs are not labelled here, Americans are the unwitting subjects of a GMO experiment. Hundreds of food producers are lining up to get their non-GMO certification. Look for this seal on your favorite products in the months to come. Tune in to learn more about why this project is so important and what you can expect to see from it in the future. Released January 25, 2011
