2014 Food and Health Survey | IFIC Foundation

2014 Food and Health Survey | IFIC Foundation:

While taste and price consistently have been the top two facors that impact consumers’ food and beverage purchases (90 percent and 73 percent respectively), healthfulness in 2014 almost entirely closed the gap with price, rising from 61 percent of consumers in 2012 to 71 percent this year, a 10 percentage-point increase.

Consumers aged 18-34, who cite healthfulness as a driver of food and beverage purchases, increased from 55 percent in 2013 to 66 percent in 2014, significantly narrowing the gap with other age groups.

On May 9, 2014, we went to the National Mall to ask people what they thought about various health and nutrition issues to see how their answers compare with average Americans, as revealed in the IFIC Foundation's 2014 Food and Health Survey More than a third of consumers report regularly buying food that is labeled as “natural” (37 percent) or “local” (35 percent), with 32 percent who regularly buy products advertised as “organic.” This year, 66 percent of consumers are at least somewhat confident in the food supply, while 30 percent are not too confident or not at all confident. In 2012, the former figure stood at 78 percent, while the latter stood at 18 percent. Americans are most likely to trust that health professionals will provide accurate information about weight loss, physical activity, and nutrition. On the other hand, Americans trust the U.S. government the most when it comes to food safety, food ingredients, and the way foods are produced and farmed. Survey Objectives: To understand the attitudes and opinions regarding food biotechnology and the importance of certain benefits of today’s modern food supply that are made possible with biotechnology. To gauge consumer knowledge and awareness pertaining to plant and animal biotechnology safety, benefits and labeling, as well as sustainability and emerging technologies. To gauge purchase behavior and determine which information about food biotechnology, and from what sources, best assists consumers with making informed food decisions.

Autism Explained: Synergistic Poisoning from Aluminum and Glyphosate - Stephanie Seneff | autismone.org

Autism Explained: Synergistic Poisoning from Aluminum and Glyphosate - Stephanie Seneff | autismone.org:
The number of children diagnosed with autism in America has risen alarmingly over the past fifteen years, in exact step with the rise in the use of glyphosate (Roundup) on corn and soy crops. Coincidence? I think not. In parallel, children in the United States have been burdened with an increased aluminum load from the world's most comprehensive vaccination schedule. Glyphosate has a number of known biological effects that align with the known pathologies associated with autism. Glyphosate also likely promotes aluminum uptake into the tissues. Aluminum, a well-documented neurotoxin, is the established cause of dialysis dementia. I propose that aluminum accumulation in the brain, synergistically promoted by glyphosate, is the principal cause of autism in the US.

Iowa farmer visits Southern Oregon to discuss GMO-related health concerns | DailyTidings.com

Howard Vlieger's presentation "excerpts" in Seattle, WA Sept. 2013. (Presentation Playlist)

An Iowa farmer who claims pigs exposed to genetically modified organisms suffer more ailments than other animals will speak in Ashland next week in support of a local campaign to ban GMOs here.

Howard Vlieger, of Maurice, Iowa, conducted experiments in which a group of pigs was fed corn and grain treated with GMO herbicides and a control group wasn't. The pigs exposed to GMOs showed digestive, immunity and reproductive problems, while the control group didn't, he said.

As a result, the GMO group needed more antibiotics for E. coli and botulism, he added.
Vlieger, who has conducted studies over the past 20 years, will give presentations Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 28-29, throughout the Rogue Valley. He is being sponsored by GMO-Free Jackson County, a campaign to support a May ballot measure that would mostly ban GMOs locally.

Sun Valley GMO Debate.wma - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage

Jenny Allen Easley and Leslie Stoddard (R)

I have complete exhaustion. In my past, I would never have thought of going to a debate in front of a room full of people that I know oppose me. The old city of Middleton helped me figure out how to cope with that. ;-)
But, somewhere along the way, I changed and developed a bravery that I never knew existed. Don't get me wrong, I had a few scattered second thoughts here and there, but I went and Leslie went and we did it. And it was awesome.

Here is how I know we are winning, last year or the year before that, big food would NEVER have invited Jenny Easley to come talk about consumer advocacy issues. Last year, they would not have cared that GMO Idaho formed a group or that we wanted labeling. But that was before activists in every state started making so much noise that even here in GMO land have to set aside time to hear us out. They are listening and they are starting to understand that they are going to have to do SOMETHING to deal with us.

The video they played before the debate made my heart smile. The head of the dairy industry spoke about GMO activists with contempt, but the video was a warning that GMO activists were coming back from the loss in California with a vengeance. She warns that we have honed our message and are stronger than ever.

She is right.

Jenny Allen Easley

The above link is the complete audio of our IFT debate that took place today in Sun Valley. Big thanks to Michael Strickland for blogging about the debate LIVE and for recording!

So glad GMO Free Idaho members Eric Brandt, Michael T. Bishop, and John C Caccia were in attendance. And of course, thankful for support from Dr. Don Huber!

We got people talking! There was a little hostility, some red faces in the audience...and I had to LOL a few times! All in all I think we did great and gave everyone something to think about.

Thanks Jenny Allen Easley for preparing all the materials, you ROCKED IT!

GMO Foods? How To Tell, Truth About Genetically Modified Foods & Label G...

GMO Food, How To Tell, Truth About Genetically Modified Foods & Label GMO Psychetruth Nutrition

Understanding the Science of Genetically Modified Foods

Recorded in Yelm, WA on September 15, 2012. Presented by the South Sound Seed Stewards and the Yelm Cooperative.

Sandra's (last name withheld by request) presentation is based on the book and DVD, "Genetic Roulette," written by Jeffrey M. Smith and presented by the Institute of Responsible Technology.

Synopsis of "Genetic Roulette:" When the US government ignored repeated warnings by its own scientists and allowed untested genetically modified (GM) crops into our environment and food supply, it was a gamble of unprecedented proportions. The health of all living things and all future generations were put at risk by an infant technology.

After two decades, physicians and scientists have uncovered a grave trend. The same serious health problems found in lab animals, livestock, and pets that have been fed GM foods are now on the rise in the US population. And when people and animals stop eating genetically modified organisms (GMOs), their health improves.

About the speaker:
Sandra earned a BS in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology, and frequently speaks publicly about a variety of topics relating to health, healing and food, including: The Health Risks of Genetically Modified Foods, MSG and Aspartame, The Importance of Vitamin D, Clear the Confusion About Cholesterol & Fats, and To Soy or Not To Soy.

Deadly Persuasion - The Advertising of Tobacco

Bestselling author and influential advertising expert Jean Kilbourne examines the ever-evolving marketing and sales strategies of the alcohol and tobacco industries. Kilbourne takes a close look at how both industries have re-tooled their strategies in the face of rising public health concerns, showing how ad executives continue to mobilize a highly sophisticated understanding of gendered identity -- and the psychology of addiction -- to override rational resistance to what they're selling. With its close analysis of a wide sampling of cigarette and alcohol ads, Deadly Persuasion is as much a case study in media literacy as it is a public health tool.
